- The Constitution of India, under Article 17, abolished untouchability, and various provisions were made for the upliftment of Scheduled Castes.
2. Constitutional Safeguards:
- Reservation in educational institutions, government jobs, and legislative bodies.
- Special provisions for economic and social empowerment through schemes like scholarships, skill development programs, and housing schemes.
3. Government Initiatives:
- Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) ensures allocation of funds for the development of Scheduled Castes in proportion to their population.
- Special Component Plan (SCP) for Scheduled Castes within state plans.
- Dr. Ambedkar Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC Students.
